Project Details
This general contracting/bid spec project involved the construction of a very large distribution centre in a rural setting. The $45 million centre encompassed two consecutive projects: the first was close to 800,000 square feet, followed by an additional expansion of 250,000 square feet.
The Challenge
The 90-acre site had been a farmer’s field, which meant all of it had to be graded. Timing was a top priority due to the scope of the project.
The Ball Solution
We began by putting in 200 loading docks and through careful and precise scheduling we built this massive structure on the outskirts of Cambridge.
Ball was able to complete the first project in 11 months, a very impressive accomplishment for a building of that size.
The owner was so impressed that he awarded us a contract to expand the building; subsequently Ball added another 250,000 square feet as the construction manager. As a result of this repeat business we ended up building a million square feet.
