40 Years of Forward Thinking
Where did those four decades go? As a founding member of the Grand Valley Construction Association, Ball Construction has seen more than its share of change in the industry. Much of this change has been apply and professionally championed by Martha George, President of the GVCA. We caught up with Martha to ask her what she views as the most profound changes she has seen in her years of tenure.
“Over the past decades, projects have become increasingly more complicated; requiring a high level of expertise and detailed contracts to mitigate risk. Gone are the days of projects built on a handshake,” explains George. “Today’s complex buildings have to take into account safety and environmental concerns to project contractors and their sub trades. The firms with experience, knowledge and current education or the latest construction methodology are the ones that thrive. With profit margins experiencing downward pressure, maximizing efficiency, planning, labour ratios and materials, require a much more sophisticated approach.”
Following a highly successful GVCA Awards Gala recently, Martha eagerly looks forward to what the rest of 2014 has to offer.
