From the Desk of Gary Hauck – Outgoing Chair of the GVCA
As we reflect on the year that was, we also celebrate our accomplishments over a much longer term. GVCA counted its 40th anniversary in 2014. Compared with other local construction associations in Ontario, we are the new kids on the block.
We began 2014 by accepting the Canadian Construction Association’s annual Gold Seal Association Award, an honour given to the CCA partner association that actively promotes our industry’s Gold Seal program. We are proud of the work we do every day to promote Gold Seal, and Gold Seal managed projects in particular. These jobs are proof positive of the exceptional work done by the men and women who work for our GVCA members including my company Ball Construction.
Service to members is what drives our association forward. It has to be. Years ago, a local construction association could thrive on offering construction information to its members. That is no longer the case. The Internet makes that kind of data accessible to anyone, anywhere at any time. At GVCA, our aim is to offer more. We wish to offer deeper insight into trends and events that enables you to do business more effectively and win work more convincingly. We offer construction intelligence.
It is for this reason that we launched such member benefits as an annual economic outlook event, an expanded and greatly improved Journal magazine, and a new software platform and user interface for our electronic plans room.
As chair for 2014-15, I was particularly proud of building on the successes of existing programs such as our Safety Group, our educational excursions and our ever-popular social and networking events. With Ball Construction at the forefront of construction safety with our COR certification, these efforts struck a personal chord for me.
As we move into the second quarter of 2015, we will continue to develop and grow this association by offering new and evermore innovative services to our members. I enjoyed my tenure as chair and eagerly look forward to supporting the GVCA as past chair, to help deliver on our mission to make GVCA your first choice for construction intelligence in Ontario.
