Official Opening of Robert C. Austin Operation Centre – Halton Hills
Ball Construction is proud to have acted as the construction management firm for the Robert C. Austin Operation Centre, located at 11620 Trafalgar Road in Halton Hills, Ontario. This brand new public works facility officially opened its doors on October 21st 2015.
The 25,000 sq. ft. building has the following features:
- Two stories of administrative office space.
- Four service bays fully equipped with new and relocated tools, equipment, hoists and a 5-ton crane, ensuring that snow plows, salters and maintenance vehicles will be kept on the road.
- Mechanical, material storage, equipment and operating space, plus site work for outdoor storage, snow dump and internal roads.
- A terraced green roof lasting twice as long as conventional roofing and offering greater insulation and a reduction in the amount of energy needed to moderate building temperatures.
- A fitness room, boardroom and lunch cafeteria.
- Full accessibility.
Construction on the complex began in July of 2014, and it now serves as the long-awaited home to more than 60 full-time and seasonal public works staff. “This project is a welcome relief to the Halton Hills staff who have been working out of a crowded office on the same site,” noted Ball project manager Andy O’Brien. This sentiment was echoed by Chris Mills, Commisioner of Planning and Infrastructure for the Town of Halton Hills: “A serious need for constructing a replacement for the old public works facility was identified in the budget process back in 2009. With counsel’s endorsement and consultation with staff, our vision has now become a reality.”
A vital part of the Halton Hills community, the centre benefits staff performing more than 30 individual services for the town including road repair, parks and forestry, transportation and the all important winter control operations.
Constructed in accordance with the town’s stated sustainable building policy, the facility maximizes energy efficiency, water conservation and storm water management.
The project was a collaborative effort amongst the Town of Halton Hills, Rounthwaite Dick and Hadley Architects Inc., and Ball, which oversaw all construction sub-contracts. Financing was provided by the Town of Halton Hills, the Government of Canada’s Federal Gas Tax Fund and Halton Hills Hydro.
