Ball Starts Demolition Phase of WLU Peters Building
In December 2016, after an open and competitive process, Ball was awarded a new construction management contract at Wilfrid Laurier University. The project involves the complete renovation of the existing Frank C. Peters building at 75 University Avenue West, in Waterloo.
While the campus building once housed classrooms for business students, its primary future use will be multifunctional, including mostly staff accommodations and a welcome centre for potential future students.
The project’s preconstruction work has been completed and we’ve prepared documents for sequential tendering to the various trades. Asbestos abatement and demolition work has begun on the property and should take approximately 12-16 weeks to complete. Upcoming stages include tendering of the mechanical, electrical and finish trades.
Planned self-performed activities include framing carpentry and installation of doors, frames and hardware. In order to bring the building into the modern era, Ball will be following the plans set out by the architecture and design firm, Perkins + Will, which mainly involves changing the internal mechanical and electrical systems and completing a fresh interior finish of all walls, floors and ceilings. This is still under design so exact finishes are not currently known.
The projected completion date is April, 2018.
