Yardmen Arena Restoration Moves Ahead
Ball Construction is proud to report steady progress on renovation of the Yardmen Arena in Belleville, Ontario.
Last year, Ball was awarded the construction management contract for the Yardmen Arena Expansion and Renovation Project. The building is part of the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre, located at 265 Cannifton Road in Belleville. It is the future home of the Belleville Senators of the American Hockey League (AHL). On-site construction began on December 5, 2016.
To ready the arena for AHL action in November 2017, the scope of the work includes the following:
- Total seat expansion from 3,217 to 4,400 (including 450 premium and 45 accessible w/companion)
- NHL-sized standard rink, glass and board systems
- Expanded and refurbished home team dressing room
- Extended back-of-house area
- Corporate suites and club suite
- New refrigeration system
- Upgraded concourses
- Modern score clock and enhanced sound system
- New washrooms and public entrance
With expansions on the north and west side of the building underway, structural steel delivery began in early May with precast installation planned for June 1st and a new rink pour scheduled for July 7th or 10th, 2017.
Ball’s self-performed activities include work on structural and foundational concrete, framing and trim carpentry and the installation of doors, frames and hardware.
Ball is uniquely suited to meet the technical and scheduling requirements of this project due to our vast experience in hockey arena construction. Additionally, we were involved at the outset in the project’s overall plan, including the structural steel design.
In conjunction with Architecture 49 and city staff, Ball has worked conscientiously to minimize the construction’s impact on patrons visiting the complex.
At present, Ball is on schedule and on budget and fully expects this undertaking to become an award-winning project.
Barring unforeseen challenges, the anticipated completion date is October 30, 2017.
