The KW Titans began their third National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC) season on Nov. 18th, hosting the expansion Sudbury Five in a wide open game before an enthusiastic crowd at the Kitchener Auditorium. As the majority owner of Titans franchise, Ball Construction is committed to continuing to grow connections to the team within the community.
Cavell Johnson, 33, returned this year in the role of head coach and general manager—having assumed coaching duties near the end of last season. With only six players returning from last year’s squad, the Titans have a chance to push the reset button.
The see-saw home opener saw the Titans leading 85-83 after three quarters.
The home side ultimately lost 115-112 in the final seconds but the game was close throughout, with fans showing their appreciation for what was an emotional and sometimes testy, hard-fought affair. Flenard Whitfield led the Titans with 24 points, followed by Ed Horton and Akeem Ellis with 20 each, Ashton Smith with 18 and Derek Hall who posted 16.
The Titans get another shot at the Sudbury Five during their next home game on December 13th @ The Aud. Tip-off time is 7 pm.
