West Lincoln Recreation Centre Now Completed
Ball is excited to report that work on Smithville Ontario’s multi-use community centre is finished. Located at 177 West Street, this new sports and leisure centre will serve as an area focal point for residents of West Lincoln Township and Niagara West.
This design-build facility consists of a 450-seat NHL-sized arena, a wellness centre with bleacher seating for 200, multi-use rooms, a community room, an indoor walking track, a library and gymnasium. The site also includes parking capacity for 300 cars, a skateboard park, splash pad and playground.
With an eye for future sustainability, the building was designed to meet LEED™ Silver certification requirements.
Turnover of the skateboard park, splash pad and playground occurred in the summer of 2018 followed by completion of the library portion September 27 and a grand opening ceremony on October 12, 2018. With the the rink boards, arena floor, seating and benches all installed, the first ice went in January 25, 2019.
The project timeline was very tight because of phased turnovers. This meant it was challenging to provide access and occupancy for the public while ensuring life safety systems were in place and operational while the facility was under major construction.
