Why We Work Safely
As part of an industry-wide education and awareness campaign, each year the construction industry underlines its commitment to safety in the form of Safety Week.
The 2019 campaign took place from May 6 to 10. As part of our annual commitment to the initiative, Ball took the opportunity to educate, motivate and share best safety practices in the form of an on-site meeting with workers themed: What is your Safety Commitment?
There was an open discussion that focused on ground-level workers’ commitment to safety, including Ball’s participation in the League of Champions and why this initiative is part of our safety culture.
We all shared personal on-site experiences, including accidents, incidents and near misses from both current and previous job sites.
The workers were asked who it is they work safely for and then took the time to reflect on the people who depend upon them and those they care about. As a constant reminder to always stay safe, we created a poster for the health and safety bulletin board with each person placing a picture or names of loved ones as a daily reminder to work safely.
At the end of the meeting, each worker signed the League of Champions jersey to solidify their commitment and promise to work smart and keep safety in mind during every task they perform.
