Durham College Expansion Nears Completion
Ball Construction is in the finishing stages of completing Durham College’s new skilled trades centre. This represents the fourth phase of expansion and renewal on the Whitby campus.
The new addition offers mainly expanded workspaces for the college’s electrical, plumbing, and elevator tech programs. It also includes student services, amenities, faculty offices, a workout area and flexible classroom and event spaces.
The building will allow for an increase of more than 750 Durham College students each year. It will also help address the ongoing scarcity in skilled trades workers (the construction industry alone faces a shortage of more than 20,000 personnel due to senior retirements).
After a relatively short shutdown in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Ball remains on target to achieve occupancy by the end of May.
Durham College is very pleased with the Phase IV work as indicated by this glowing letter of reference provided by college president Don Lovisa.
