Ball Receives 97% COR™ Score
The Certificate of Recognition (COR™) is a Canadian accreditation and verification program that provides companies with an effective tool to assess their health and safety management systems.
The objective of COR is to provide employers with a standardized health and safety management system that reduces workplace incidents, accidents, injuries and illnesses and the associated human suffering and financial losses. It is nationally endorsed by the Canadian Federation of Construction Safety Associations (CFCSA) of which the Infrastructure Health and Safety Association (IHSA) is a member and the certifying authority for COR in Ontario.
To drive positive workplace behaviour and practices, the construction industry has adopted the COR standard extensively, requesting COR certification as a precondition for many contractors working on both public- and private-sector projects.
In November, Ball Construction received its 2021 IHSA COR audit results. The final score was adjusted to 97% based on the evidence provided with the audit submission and its adherence to the COR-supporting instructions—verifying that Ball has a fully implemented safety and health program that meets national standards.
According to Ball’s director of health and safety, Brian Burns, “Protecting the health and safety of all workers is always the right thing to do. COR enrollment allows us to annually measure an exhaustive list of health and safety parameters, enabling us to proactively manage risk.”
Burns emphasized that as an initiative-taking approach, COR is a crucial assessment tool that helps to continually improve the company’s health and safety management program.
By maintaining COR status, Ball not only demonstrates its ongoing, core commitment to a “safety-first” culture, but also that its health and safety management system is developed, implemented and evaluated on an annual basis, through comprehensive internal and external auditing.
Congratulations are in order to all members of Ball Construction’s joint health and safety committee and all site management staff who continue to make Ball’s health and safety management program a tremendous success.
