Homer Watson Business Park Project Underway
Ball is happy to report that construction is ramping up at Homer Watson Business Park, Kitchener’s exciting new landmark industrial business park located at Homer Watson Boulevard and Bleams Road.
A joint venture by Perimeter Development Group and Crestpoint Real Estate, this strategically located, first-class infill project is part of a revival of the former Budd Automotive property, which has been dormant since 2008.
After the groundbreaking ceremony on Nov 2, 2021, Ball began construction of three, LEED-certified industrial buildings with a total footprint of 718,189 square feet. The project also includes completion of parking spaces and landscaping surrounding each building, finishing up internal property roads and the restoration and improvement of the adjacent stormwater management pond and its terrain.
Due to COVID-19 disruptions to the construction industry’s supply chains, the availability of material and equipment from various sources continues to pose challenges. Anticipating these hurdles, we ensured that our purchase orders and contracts for materials and equipment were issued as soon as the main contract was finalized. Working with our subcontractors, this foresight helped avoid cost escalation while keeping the overall project on schedule. We continue to act as a liaison between the owner and subcontractors, accommodating contract requests that arise as result of delays caused by the pandemic.
Ball has been preparing, excavating and grading the foundation for Building Two and installing site services including the sanitary sewer, water main and storm pipe systems. We look forward to starting concrete work in February.
Building Two is the smallest of the three structures at approximately 60,000 square feet, and we anticipate it will be finished by the fourth quarter of 2022. The entire project is expected to be completed by the end of July 2023.
