Project Details
The Hillsdale Terrace is a 3-storey, 200-unit long-term care facility in Oshawa. This general contracting/bid spec project was completed for the Regional Municipality of Durham in 2006.
The Challenge
The project involved relocation of residents and the demolition of two buildings.
Due to unstable soils, construction involved caissons and grade-beams and took place next to an existing, occupied long-term care building.
Also, during construction, the cost of raw steel more than doubled over a 12-month period, which was problematic for the sub-trades.
The Ball Solution
We provided smooth truck and vehicle access through the existing parking lot while also ensuring the safety of residents in the adjacent building.
Pre-payments to the sub-trades were made for the purchase of materials before steel price increases took effect.
Key Ball staff from the Oshawa area—a superintendent and foreman—were available so that we were able to respond promptly to client needs.
