Safety Week: Be Present. Be Focused. Be Safe.
Ball Construction is proud to support and participate in Construction Health and Safety Week, which takes place across North America from May 3–9. This annual week-long event allows the construction industry and its partners to recommit to sending every worker home safe each day.
This year’s theme is entitled: Be Present. Be Focused. Be Safe.
These words encompass the goal of the industry to promote physical and psychological safety on all construction sites. Ball Construction’s health and safety manager, Brian Burns, plans to visit all of Ball’s sites in support of these goals.

To avoid work-related accidents resulting from employee behaviour, it is crucial that workers are both physically prepared and mentally present both as individuals and as a team. Behavioural safety involves identifying bad habits that can cause accidents while reinforcing good habits. Safe behaviour is regarded as a critical work-related skill and unsafe behaviours can act as an early warning system for accidents and incidents. Measuring these behaviours provides information we can use proactively to improve workplace safety and health.
Ball has added a series of safety topics from the Infrastructure Health and Safety Association (IHSA) to our safety management platform, Site Docs. These “Toolbox Talks” serve as excellent vehicles for supervisors to review important safety protocols with their teams. They include Back Care—Basic Lifting, Stretching Exercises, Responsibilities, and Impairment at the Workplace.
It is not enough to simply abide by regulatory requirements and compliance standards. Each worker needs to be a proactive member of a safe workplace.
An early adopter of the Certificate of Recognition (COR) and the League of Champions safety program, Ball Construction continues to be at forefront of construction health and safety through demonstrated leadership.
