Homer Watson Business Park in Kitchener Nears Completion

The Homer Watson Business Park project is located in Kitchener at the former Budd Automotive property on Homer Watson Boulevard and Bleams Road. After the ground-breaking ceremony on November 2, 2021, Ball began construction of three, LEED-certified industrial buildings with a total footprint of 718,189 square feet. The three buildings are being constructed similarly with different-coloured insulated panels to set them apart. Each building retains several entrances and truck bays that future tenants will use for shipping and receiving. The project also includes the completion of parking spaces and landscaping surrounding each building, finishing up of internal property roads and the restoration and improvement of the adjacent stormwater management pond and its terrain.

The smallest of the three buildings is 59,481 sq ft. The first to be constructed, it has been handed over to the owners, whose tenant is completing their own interior fit-out. With its blue insulated metal panels facing Homer Watson Boulevard and Pearson Street, the building is easy to identify.

At 508,250 sq ft, the largest of the three buildings is hard to miss. The superstructure has been completed and the current focus is on enclosing the building. Precast panels comprise the majority of the exterior and the insulated metal panel and curtain wall glazing crews are now working their way around the building. Feature wall finishes are ongoing, giving the building architectural flare with aluminum metal panels. Roofing crews are making steady progress across the roof, which should be wrapped up by May 12th. Four HVAC rooftop units were placed in their final positions last month, with gas line connections underway. In the interior, underground plumbing and duct work have been completed. Great progress is being made with ongoing projects such as the installation of fire protection equipment and electrical systems.

The third building, with a gross area of 148,198 sq ft, is coming along nicely as the superstructure was erected recently on its cast-in-place foundations. The precast walls are installed and the building’s roofing is starting May 15^th.

With construction progressing positively, the entire project is slated to be completed by late summer this year.
