Project Details
This design-build structure is one of the most extensive student services buildings in Ontario. The 35,000-square-foot facility addresses the needs of students from one centralized location. This was the very first project to be completed under the federal Knowledge Infrastructure Program.
The Challenge
Due to growth, Durham College was confronted with an administrative apparatus that had spread across campus amongst half a dozen buildings. The goal was to amalgamate all administrative functions into one area.
As a result of a very complex architectural design by Teeple Architects, this building required much time, effort and coordination. The synchronization amongst each contractor—especially where they interfaced— was critical in order for all the intricate pieces to fall into place.
The Ball Solution
Our vast experience working with different consultants and contractors allowed us to bundle all the elements together and finish the work ahead of schedule. As a result, Ball and Teeple were able to create something very unique.
Ralph Aprile, Associate VP of Facilities, Durham College, commended us for our ability to work cohesively with the architect so that the facility now serves a one-stop shop for Durham students.
The building has received several awards and helped to put Durham College on the map.
